Cinemambiente was founded in Turin in 1998 with the idea to promote a heightened awareness of crucial environmental issues through cinematic works. Another important component of the Festival is the opportunity to see the past year’s best films that explore environmental situations from diverse points of view and enrich the experience by engaging audience discussion on the film’s topics during the Festival or when on tour to communities and schools.
To our mind, the environmental film genre comprises a broad spectrum from television documentaries to animated cartoons on pollution, enquiry films into deforestation and illegal ecobusiness, from war documentaries to the poetic works of noted directors like De Seta, Quilici, Flaherty and Ivens.
A pioneer in eco-edutainment, over the past decade Cinemambiente has become the main Italian event on national and international environmental film festival agendas. Film entries are also shown throughout the year at the events Cinemambiente organizes in other cities.
Cinemambiente is part of the European Co-ordination of Cinematographic Festivals and member of the European Environmental Film Festival Network, an association that promotes major international film festivals on environmental themes.
